What Claude Tag is and how it works

Claude Tag is Claude added to your team's Slack workspace as a member. Once you, a teammate, or an admin adds it to a channel, tag Claude in that channel and Claude replies in that thread. Claude has read the channel before it answers, it can use the tools connected to the channel, and everyone in the channel can see and join the exchange.

Beyond answering one request, Claude can run routines on a schedule (lesson 8), act on a standing responsibility when something happens in the channel, and answer the kinds of untagged messages you name (lesson 7).

What is different from Claude in a chat

Because Claude is a member of the channel, a few things are different from a chat with Claude on your own:

Reply in the thread to add context or change course; Claude reads every reply there, with no new tag. Configure, under each of Claude's replies, opens the channel's settings.

What Claude can do, with and without tools

Claude does more than reply in the thread. It can take action directly in your team's tools and in your own (lessons 2 and 3). And even with no tools connected, Claude can already do useful work wherever it has been added:

Where you can work with Claude

You can work with Claude across your workspace:

• A DM: between you and Claude (lesson 2).
• A public channel: open to anyone on the team (lesson 3).
• A private channel: for a specific group (lesson 4).

Claude itself is the same in all three. What changes between them is who can join the work, what Claude can reach, and where it keeps what it learns. The next three lessons go over each, and lesson 5 helps you choose between them.
