Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about Claude Academy: signing in, moving from Skilljar, badges and certificates, courses, and your data.
Sign-in and access
Why can’t I sign in?
Academy signs you in with your Claude account: click “Sign in”, authorize at claude.ai, and you’re back. Two common issues: (1) if you don’t have a Claude account yet, create one first at claude.ai; (2) if you have multiple Claude accounts or organizations, Academy connects to the one you’re signed in to at claude.ai when you authorize. Sign out of claude.ai, sign back in with the account you want, and try again.
Why is Academy a separate site from Claude? Why do I have to sign in again?
Academy lives at its own address, so signing in is a quick one-time authorization: we send you to claude.ai, you approve, and you’re back. Your Academy identity is your Claude account; there’s nothing separate to manage.
I signed in with my company’s SSO, but Academy shows my personal account
Academy links your learning to the Claude account, and the organization inside it, that was active when you authorized. If that was a personal account, your enrollments were recorded there. To get company-attributed learning going forward: sign out of claude.ai, sign back in through your company’s SSO, then re-authorize Academy. Enrollments and progress on the personal account stay there. If that personal account uses the same email address as your company sign-in, you can move those courses to your organization once you’re signed in with your organization, from your Academy dashboard or the course’s page. Courses can’t be moved between Claude accounts with different email addresses.
What is Claude Academy? Is it free? Do I need a paid plan or a work account?
Claude Academy is Anthropic’s home for learning, with structured courses and tutorials on AI and Claude. It’s free: you can browse the catalog without signing in at all, and signing in with a free Claude account is what saves your progress and lets you earn completion badges. You don’t need a paid plan, and you don’t need a work account. A personal Claude account works.
Academy says I haven’t been added to my organization yet
That message means your Claude account isn’t attached to your organization’s Academy access yet. It isn’t something you can fix from Academy. Ask your organization’s Claude admin to add you. Once they have, sign out of claude.ai, sign back in, and re-authorize Academy.
Migrating from Skilljar
Why can’t I see my progress from Skilljar?
Skilljar progress doesn’t carry over automatically. If the email on your Claude account matches the email you used on Skilljar, you’ll see a banner prompting you to import the data. The import is rolling out gradually, so you may not see the banner yet. If your Skilljar email doesn’t match a Claude account, you have two options: create a free Claude account with that email, or re-earn your certificates on your current Claude account’s email. We don’t support merging accounts across different emails. Nothing changes on Skilljar itself: whatever you completed or earned there stays in that system.
My Skilljar email is different from my Claude account email
Skilljar import is only supported into a Claude account whose email matches your Skilljar email. If yours don’t match, you have two options: create a free Claude account using your Skilljar email, or re-earn your certificates on your current Claude account’s email. We don’t currently support merging accounts across different emails.
I’m leaving my company. Can you transfer my learning to a new email address?
Academy learning is attached to your Claude account rather than an email address, so there’s no transfer option today. If your history is on your personal Claude account, it stays with you when you change jobs. If it’s on a company-managed account you’re losing access to, we can’t move it, because account merging across different emails isn’t supported. We know that’s painful. Completion badges you’ve shared can still be verified at their public links.
My company’s email domain was allowlisted for partner access on Skilljar. Is that automatically enabled on the new platform?
No. If you’re part of the partner program, you should continue using Skilljar for learning for the time being.
I have two accounts, one on anthropic.skilljar.com and one on anthropic-partners.skilljar.com. Which one migrated? Can you merge them?
Skilljar import goes by email match: it’s supported when your Claude account email matches the Skilljar account’s email. For an account whose email doesn’t match, you can create a free Claude account with that email, or re-earn certificates on the account you use day to day. Both of your Skilljar accounts, and everything on them, are unaffected.
I earned certificates on Skilljar. Are they still valid? Where do I find them?
Your Skilljar certificates are still yours. Academy doesn’t change, move, or revoke anything you earned on Skilljar; they stay where they were issued. Skilljar import into Academy is supported when the email on your Claude account matches your Skilljar email. If the emails don’t match, you can create a free Claude account with your Skilljar email, or re-earn certificates on your current Claude account’s email. We don’t support merging accounts across different emails.
Completion badges
Can I change my name on my completion badge?
Yes. Open the badge from your Academy dashboard and choose “Edit name”. Badges are issued automatically with your Claude account name when you pass the final required quiz. If we couldn’t fill it in, you’ll type it when you claim the badge. You can change the name any time, and a rename keeps the badge’s public verification link the same, so anywhere you’ve already shared it keeps working.
I finished every lesson. Where’s my completion badge?
Completion badges are earned by passing the course’s quizzes (every lesson quiz, plus the final assessment where the course has one), rather than by finishing the lessons. Check the course page for any quiz you haven’t passed yet; once the last one is passed, your completion badge is issued immediately. Retakes are unlimited, so you can try again right away.
Can I delete a completion badge?
You can’t delete a completion badge yourself yet. Message support through the support messenger in the corner of the page, and they’ll delete it for you. Deletion is permanent, and the badge’s shared link stops working. Your course progress stays, so you can claim a new badge later, with a new link.
The course ended with a feedback form and I closed the tab without submitting. Did I lose my completion badge?
No. Your completion badge isn’t tied to the feedback form. Completion badges are issued the moment you pass the final required quiz, before any feedback step. Check your dashboard: it should already be there. If it isn’t (this can happen when we couldn’t pre-fill your name), open the course and claim it. Your quiz passes are stored, so nothing is lost.
I didn’t pass the final quiz. Do I retake the whole course or just the quiz? Is there a retry limit or timeout?
Just the quiz. Your lesson progress and any quizzes you’ve already passed stay passed, so you only retake the one you missed. There’s no retry limit and no lockout timer; you can retake it immediately.
Does my completion badge expire? Do I need to re-certify when new Claude versions come out?
Completion badges don’t expire. They record that you completed the course as it existed when you took it, with the issue date shown on the verification page. There’s no required re-certification when new Claude versions ship; if a course is substantially updated, you’re welcome to retake it.
This course updated while I was taking it. What does that mean for my completion badge?
Your work isn’t lost. When we update a course, quizzes you’ve already passed stay passed, and a completion badge you’ve already earned stays valid. A course update never takes one back. If you’re mid-course when an update lands, you may occasionally see new or changed lessons or quizzes to finish before your completion badge is issued, but you never start over. And you don’t need to redo a course you’ve already completed unless we announce otherwise.
How do I download or share my completion badge?
Every completion badge is available from your Academy dashboard on academy.claude.com. Open a badge there and choose Download PDF to save a copy, or Add to LinkedIn to put it on your profile. Each badge also has a public verification link you can share anywhere. Anyone with the link can confirm it’s genuine. There’s nothing to request from support: if you’ve earned it, it’s already on your dashboard.
I’m registered for a Claude certification exam. Is that the same as an Academy completion badge?
No. They’re two different things. Academy completion badges are free and are earned by passing a course’s quizzes on academy.claude.com. The Claude certification exams are a separate paid, proctored program: the exams are delivered by Pearson and the credential is issued through Credly, not by Academy. If your question is about scheduling an exam, exam access, a voucher, or a credential you earned by exam, that’s the Pearson/Credly program that’s only available to Anthropic partners through the partner learning site(opens in new tab). If you’re asking how to download or share a completion badge you earned on academy.claude.com, see “How do I download or share my completion badge?” above. You don’t need to contact support.
Courses and progress
How do I withdraw from a course?
On the course page, choose Withdraw from course. The course leaves your enrolled list, and your progress stays, so if you enroll again later you pick up where you left off.
How many times can I retake a quiz?
As many times as you like. There’s no retake limit. Each attempt is graded fresh, and a previous failed attempt never counts against you.
The course is listed as 4 hours but it took me less. Do I still get the completion badge?
Yes. Listed durations are estimates to help you plan. Completion is based on working through the lessons and passing the quizzes, not on time spent, so fast is fine.
A code sample in a lesson doesn’t run (it uses a deprecated flag). Is this course out of date?
Thanks for catching that. Send the course, lesson, and code sample through the support messenger in the corner of the page, and it goes to the content team. You don’t need to wait for a fix to finish the course.
Personal courses and your organization
Why does a course say “Personal”?
If you took a course while signed in with a personal Claude account, and you’re also a member of a Team or Enterprise organization, that course is marked “Personal”. Personal courses don’t count toward your organization.
Can I move a course to my organization?
Yes. On Your learning, a banner shows how many of your courses count elsewhere and offers to move them. Nothing moves until you confirm. The confirmation lists each course, and you choose which ones to move.
What does my organization see after a move?
People who can view your organization’s reports will see the courses you moved, with your progress and dates. Quiz scores are never shared.
Emails and notifications
I’m getting too many emails from Academy. How do I turn them off?
Academy currently sends only one email: a completion notification when you earn a badge. It’s a transactional record of your credential, so there’s no unsubscribe.
Privacy and data
Will my employer see my progress?
Your employer sees your Academy data only if you enrolled through your company’s Claude organization or moved a course into it. If you did, your organization’s owners and admins, and members whose role includes the Analytics permission, can see those courses, your email address or Claude account ID, your status, and the dates you enrolled, finished, and earned a badge. They never see quiz scores, attempts, or time spent. Courses that count toward your personal account aren’t visible to any organization.
How do I delete my account? Does this delete my data in Skilljar also?
You can delete your Academy data without deleting your Claude account. Click your avatar in the top right, choose Settings, then choose Delete your Academy data. This permanently removes your enrollments, progress, activity, quiz attempts, and completion badges, and shared badge links stop working. Deleting your Claude account also deletes your Academy data, so save any badges you want to keep first. Deleting your Academy data doesn’t change anything on Skilljar.
What happens to what I type in search?
Academy’s search can match pages to the meaning of your search, not only its keywords. When it does, a line under the search box says “Search finds the most relevant pages for what you’re looking for.” Your search text is then sent as you type to Google Cloud, one of Anthropic’s service providers, and the result is used to rank pages. Anthropic doesn’t log your search text or save it to a database. The search service holds recent searches in memory to answer repeats faster. If you don’t see that line while you search, your search text isn’t sent to the search service or to Google Cloud, and search matches keywords only (for example, when you’re signed in, and semantic search isn’t available for your organization). Search also falls back to keywords when the service is unavailable.
Where the search_academy MCP tool ranks by meaning, searches an AI client makes with it go to Google Cloud, regardless of your organization, as the MCP server is unauthenticated. When you ask Claude a question from either the search box or the Ask Claude button in the corner of the page, your question is matched to pages the same way, if semantic search is available for your organization. Anthropic’s service providers are listed at trust.anthropic.com/subprocessors(opens in new tab).
The “Claude in Academy” setting, for organization admins
What does the “Claude in Academy” setting control?
This setting decides whether members of your organization can use the Claude-powered features in Claude Academy (academy.claude.com): asking Claude questions about what they’re learning, and the lesson tools that turn a passage into a diagram or quiz them on it. When it’s off, members don’t see those features. They can still sign in, take courses, and earn badges. For Team and Enterprise plans, the organization’s Primary owner or an Owner can change the setting at any time in Admin settings > Claude Academy.
Does “Claude in Academy” cost extra or affect our usage?
There’s no separate charge. A question asked in Academy counts toward that member’s normal Claude usage, the same as a chat message. If your organization has usage credits turned on, your existing monthly spend limits apply.
Does “Claude in Academy” add or use up seats?
It doesn’t add or use up seats. Members need to already have a seat in your organization to use these features.
Can admins see what members ask Claude in Academy?
Org reports, including the CSV download, show which courses members enrolled in, their status, their email address or Claude account ID, and the dates they enrolled, finished, and earned a badge. They don’t show what members asked Claude.
What happens to the questions members ask Claude in Academy?
Questions and answers aren’t saved to chat history in Academy or Claude, aren’t added to memory, and aren’t used to train models. They’re retained under your organization’s existing data retention settings.
Org reports, for organization admins
Where do I find Org reports, and who can see the report?
Sign in to Academy with the Claude account you use at work, click your avatar in the top right, and choose Org reports. If claude.ai asks you to approve access to reports, approve it. Everyone who is signed in sees the Org reports menu item, but the report opens for your Claude organization’s Primary owner, Owners, and Admins, and for members whose custom role includes the Analytics permission. Members without access see a message that Org reports aren’t available for their account. If you’re an admin but can’t see your organization’s report, Academy may be connected to a personal account or another organization: see how to switch accounts.
Who is included in Org reports?
Current members of your organization, for the courses that count toward it. Each course counts toward the organization the learner was signed in with when the course was first added to their Academy history, either by enrolling in it on Academy or by importing their Skilljar history, whichever happened first, unless the learner later moves it. A course first added in another organization doesn’t appear, even if they finish it after joining yours. A course first added on a personal Claude account doesn’t appear either until the learner moves it to your organization. A moved course keeps its original dates. When someone leaves your organization, their rows disappear from the report, including past completions and badges, and reappear if they rejoin with the same Claude account. If a learner deletes their Academy data or their Claude account, their rows are deleted permanently.
What’s in the Org reports CSV download?
One row per learner per course, with these columns: claude_account_id, learner_email, course_slug, course_title, state (Enrolled, In progress, Completed, Badge earned, or Withdrawn), enrolled_at, completed_at, and badge_issued_at. Times are in UTC. Some rows have an empty learner_email; claude_account_id still identifies them. If a learner’s badge is deleted, their row shows Completed with an empty badge_issued_at until they claim a new badge. The download includes every row that matches the Learners table’s search, course, and status filters, not just the page on screen, so if any filters are set, click “Clear all” first to download every row. The 30 days, 90 days, and All time buttons don’t change it. The report doesn’t include quiz scores, attempts, or time spent.
Content and licensing
I want to partner with you to create content
Thanks for your interest. Anthropic isn’t taking on content partnerships right now because of the number of requests.
Can I license this content / host it internally for my company?
Sometimes. If your company has an Anthropic account team, ask them about content licensing. Licensing is offered only in some cases.
Partners and third-party learners (still on Skilljar)
I’m a partner (or third-party) learner. Do I move to Academy now? What happens to my Skilljar history?
If you’re learning through the partner program, Skilljar stays your learning home for now. In the meantime nothing changes about your Skilljar access, courses, or certificates.
